The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
The Lord is…REAL
He knows me by name.
I know his voice.
He goes before me to show me the way
The Lord provides for everything I need.
He nurtures my body and my soul.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
At least he takes me to green pastures where quiet rest is available,
But many times I refuse to lie down
I remain tensely vigilant
It hurts my shepherd that I don’t trust him
I don’t trust his provision for my rest in quiet safety
I think I must protect myself
Silly sheep, to think you could do anything to save yourself!
He leads me beside the quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He knows I get scared easily.
He takes me by the quiet way
He calm my fears, and helps me listen to his voice
He brings me back to a place of quiet inner peace
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name sake.
He keeps me on the path when I try to go astray.
People know I follow him
He helps me honor his name
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
Especially in times of danger, I feel my shepherd’s watchful care
He will not allow anything to harm me
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me
It is a great comfort that my shepherd will not let me stray
That he will use his rod and staff to keep me in line and rescue me
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
Do I have enemies?
My Shepherd has turned some into friends who dine with me
Others can not harm me. I am safe with my Lord.
You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.
I am overcome with the magnitude of the Lord’s bounty
He provides for me and loves me far beyond my deserving
He has made me his child.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Not someday, but now. Today. Everyday. Forever.
